1. What is the significance of the mudslide at the end of the novel? What do you think Boyle's "message" is in that section?

2. If you have read Voltaire's Candide, comment on the similarities between Candide and Candido.

3. Boyle is known for his irony. Choose one or two specific examples of irony in this novel and explain its effect on Boyle's depiction of the "California Dream."
